Quintron: The Amazing Spellcaster Live at the Pussycat Caverns

October 31st, 1995 by jim

In the early fall of 1995, Quintron and Miss Pussycat set up their equipment and performed in the Kansas City Art Institute Cafeteria. This being an art school, my friends and I assumed this was performance art by a student. It turns out they just were passing through and decided to play a lunchtime concert without asking permission. (Oh did I mention this happened at noon?) And they got away with it because everyone, including teh staff assumed they were students like we did. They only had to stop when they set off some smoke bombs and the fire alarm went off.

I bought this record from him after the “show”.

That Halloween my floor in the dorms (4 north) set up a haunted house on that floor. Dave and I did a puppet show through the door of my room. This was the firt public appearance of the puppets soon to be known as “George and Timmy”. I used this record as the sountrack, looping with my turntable’s auto-play feature. So yeah. This record makes me think of Halloween. So here ya go:

PAPER FLEET // “PAPER FLEET”

PAPER FLEET //  “PAPER FLEET”

(OTTOMEN RECORDS OTTV-004)

paperfleetcover

In the five years since their first full-length album (2008’s Hi, Sailor) Brooklyn, NY’s Paper Fleet has crafted their garage rock sound and channeled it into a pair of 7” EPs.  Baby, We Love Each Other (2010) showcased the band’s scrappy, DIY tendencies and penchant for power-pop storytelling with memorable songs of love and laziness (“Cigarettes and Small Talk”, “Weatherman’s a Creep”).  Prairie Fires of the Great West (2011) expanded Paper Fleet’s repertoire with the peppy B-side “Out West” and captured a new audience with the fiery rocker “Plane Crash,” which was featured on The Best Show on WFMU (“It’s awesome!” declared host Tom Scharpling).

The forthcoming 12” vinyl release shows Paper Fleet cranking out uptempo rockers for the shout-along set and capturing the live energy honed over years of playing in Brooklyn and touring beyond.  The no-frills directness of Paper Fleet‘s delivery creates a sense of urgency that’s impossible to miss: in the rollicking opener “Tonight”, drummer Josh Inman thunders, “I got somethin’ to tell you/I’ll scream it across the room, if I have to!”  Throughout Paper Fleet, the band opts for the sort of timeless tune that would feel equally at home on a mixtape of early American indie rock (throw “Settle Down” on that Replacements mix, or see how “Get Lost” sits next to your favorite Dinosaur Jr. deep cut) or classic 1960s pop (“Walls Fell Down”, “Won’t You Sometimes Dream of Me?”).

If you’ve ever found love, or screwed it up, or figured it out, then decided it wasn’t worth it and hopped a train to go drink with your friends, Paper Fleet’s been there, and Paper Fleet‘s got a song about it.

Current lineup: Jim Campbell, Josh Inman, and Jon Mann.

“I’m not wont to fall for such charm but the songs just get better each time I listen. –Craven.”
-RAZORCAKE (writing about the previous Paper Fleet 7″ Prairie Fires of the Great West)

Dahm Yoh Days are here again!

DAMH YOH DAYS ARE BACK AGAIN! A MISUNG MONDAY EXCLUSIVE!

HEY FOLKS. I’ve been listening to my old music from the 2000 era and the album i did called “Dahm Yoh” which i think is a “sheep” in korean if i remember correctly.

Anywhoo, After listening to that album for awhile, i was revitalized musically and creatively. So, i dusted off my old keyboard, plugged it in and came up with this song entitled “Live inside my mind”. I recorded it on my computer but only did a few tracks. It’s a bit rough but i think it’s a catchy tune. Tell me what you think.

HERE IT IS: >>>>>live inside my mind

Jurstday Thursday – Justin covers Weezer’s only in dreams

January 12th, 2012 by justin

I have always been a big fan of Weezer.  I got a lot of ridicule for liking this band, but whatever.  Good songs!

So, after a discussion with David Misung Stevenson, I decided to try and cover one of their songs.

Not too bad.  I decided I would force myself to do it in ABLETON LIVE so I could learn not only how to record, but also how to build a song in the layout section.

There are still a number of flubs here and there.  I have no idea where the drums get their random cymbals from, but I will figure this software OUT!

It blows my mind how intuitive Ableton Live is…just the learning curve is as flat as Mount Fuji!  IRONY! betch!

Without further ado

Here’s my disastrous attempt at covering Weezer’s ONLY IN DREAMS…a very short ONLY IN DREAMS

Justin THursday dursday NEW VIDEO! old song

August 19th, 2011 by justin

I made this video using a song that sounds totally relevant to the girl in the video who I live with in Japan. Amazingly this song was written in 2004 about nobody in particular. Maybe it was some crazy foresight or something with wikwakky power tower of hour! excite!s
Enjoy
