Dave is on vacation so I’m posting this golden oldie: The Land of Nephrondon. This song is from the 2nd Ottomen album which was self titled but came to be known as “Tennis Shoes of Love”. I shot this video on Super 8 (Vlad Zimakov helped shoot the roof scenes of the whole band in red shirts). Keep and eye out for a pre-beard Michael Herring. And you Captain Skyhawk fans will recognize drummer George Garcia.

So a girl I came to know on Twitter added me on facebook and sent me a little video of her and her band.
I was blown away, she sent some more clips of new songs.
I was impressed!
Then, I was in the middle of making a new song and she told me she was only 4 foot 8, so I started to sing, “you are my smallest friend”

She asked to hear the song, then she asked to sing a verse then boom!

This song came out of living in Los Angeles, but really started to take meaning when I found myself in Tokyo everyday, surrounded by masses of people who never greet one another, speak a formal language to ensure boundaries are established between strangers and live alone in apartments too small to have friends over for a movie or drinks.

I shot this video with my phone.

I played two trombones on this song.

The location is mostly Isetan (the neiman marcus of Tokyo), the streets of Shinjuku and the back hall of the school where I teach.
